Craft book reviews

The works shop does not sell good paint brushes, their water colour paints are awful and don’t get me started on their print stick.

However there was a £1 craft book sale! Who couldn’t resist that!

so sensibly I  bought a sewing book I’ve wanted for a while…

A vintage crochet book for some winter clothes…

And something a bit cheeky!…

Watch out for the outcomes soon.

Beautiful Bonn travel review

Bonn is a city 30 minutes outside 9f cologne in Germany.

It has a large beautiful cathedral, amazing town architecture and more local brewed beer than is possibly to taste!

I spent august bank holiday here, it was a scorching 35 degrees at one point forcing us to bask in the shade in one of their beautiful city parks full of locals singing, playing frizzy and general enjoying some people watching.

We also visited the museum of contemporary germany which covered the countrys history from 1945-present. Everything from the holocaust to the Berlin Wall to angela Merkel was explained, you’ll need a whole day for this but it’s worth it and leaves you pondering for days!

I have to say I’m grateful coming home to the practical artic temperatures of Britain however I throughly enjoyed my bank holiday weekend.

Pattern walk

I went for a walk yestarday down the beach, the main reason was to get my feet all nice and soft for my weekend away at a German wedding.

However my surface pattern senses were tingling and I found some lovely natural (ish) patterns in the sand which I want to share.

These could make lovely, interesting and in trending drawings!

And my feet look lovely thanks for asking!

Stitchin’

After our first few craftivism meetings we are feeing excited and ready for a crafty fling!

Workshops next!! And I’ve been toying with the idea of stitching and badges.

And the name “stitch and bounce” has been batted around which I am totally in love with!

So to wet your apitite here is my stitching insperation board enjoy! !

Sweets for my sweet

On a beautiful damp summers afternoon I went for a wander…

On my travels I found these beautiful pieces of textiles in the university grounds.

Large Lolly pops wrapped up in shiny plastic.

Huge golden tickets hanging from the trees.

It’s like I’ve slipped into my childhoods brain imagination and become imensed in the world of Roald Dahl all over again.

Leftover tray bake

It’s Sunday night,  anyone else feeling lazy, hazy and still a tiny bit guilty with the satarday night take away!

This is a quick easy one and it’s fairly open to interpretation.

Start with two pieces of buttered bread in the bottom of an oven dish.

Second collect all the random veg you like, things like-

  • Red onions
  • Shallots
  • Leaks
  • Celery
  • Any colour pepper
  • Chilli (if you like a kick)
  • Red cabage
  • Chritzo

Or any other veg you fancy, cut into chunky pieces and spread on top of the bread in the oven dish.

For the veggie option skip ahead to cooking, however I also like to put some seasoned chicken breast on top.

One for each person eating.

Add salt, pepper, chilli flakes and other seasoning.

Cooking – put in the over at 180° for 60 minuets (or until the vegetables are soft and the chicken is cooked through)

Once cooked the bread should soak up any lovely juices and add an extra crunch.

Enjoy!

Search for happiness – Film review….. sort of

I just watched a film called Hector and the search for happiness.

I’ve seen this film before and it is a really heartfelt wonderful film full of quotable bumper stickers and real life realisations.

The best one is “most people only see happiness in their futures” which on this occasion  struck a cord with me.

I’ve been living like that, looking for happiness in my future and not particularly seeing it in my present.

Well technically right this second was yestarday future (I know it’s getting deep but bear with me).

So if the moment we live in is always the future to some other time then why should we not look for happiness right now, right this second and stop asking when am I going to be happy?

Just a thought for the day, I recommend this film to anyone who needs a chin up, is a simon peg fan or want to experience the British version of Eat, pray, love.

This is my happiness…. what’s yours?

The therapy in crochet

I love crocheting, I used to knit and found it so frustrating and exhausting counting stitches like a maths exam.

Crochet is a beautiful slow and thymic activity which calms me down and soothes my soul.

However I do now have more wool than I know what to do with and not enough projects! Typical!

YouTube has the answers for so many things, my failed yoga attempt, the endless cute cat videos and not to mention  the trailer binging for new films.

But youtube can also teach you to crochet so get chilling!

So much adventuring to do!

I have been laps in my blogging responsibilities!

3 days without a post I am shocking but it’s only because I’ve been exploring so much.

Especially the parks and outside spaces around my house, a few hints for walking and outdoor spaces.

1. Parks with play areas are packed with kids at the moment, personaly I love the sound of kids laughing but it may not be your cup of tea- head for the nature resurves and larger parks for real tranquil time.

2. Vitamin D (aka sunshine!) Is fantastic for your skin so ditch the make up for a touch of sunblock and get out there! Clears up spots lovely.

And 3. Sand is a natural expholiant! A walk along the beach and a friend with a pot of nail varnish and you can save on that pedicure.

And to finish some pics from my wanders and a promise not to be long!

Summer Holiday

Barring Cliff Richards does anyone else love British summer holidays like me? probably not.

mainly because I have a love/hate relationship with Summer.

I love that I get a tan and look all healthy!

I hate that it doesn’t last all year unless I maintain an enormous amount of sun bed upkeep.

I love ice-cream.

No wait…. LOVE ice-cream! especially Joes in Mumbles.

I hate brain freeze and the fact that I cant live off it.

And the worst part about British Summers……. the rain, that’s right it rains more than it shines. soggy barbeque anyone!!

So to cheer you all up on this soggy summer day I made a board of all the beautiful pastel dreams that summer should be about…. close your eyes and dream of campervan. sigh!
